About

UR Well represents the University of Richmond’s initiative to create a culture of well-being on campus. The Health and Well-Being (HWB) Unit serves as the principal advocate for a healthy campus community by leading the discussion and the development of health-promoting environments and health practices and policies. The HWB Unit is composed of Health Promotion, Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, University Recreation, and Disability Services. Team-based integration of services and collaborative care fosters a health care partnership that works to facilitate access, continuity of care, communication, and ultimately optimize overall health and wellness outcomes for our students.

The Well-Being Center (WBC) houses campus care for health and well-being in one location, providing easy access for students in a collaborative high-impact environment, eliminating many barriers to service. The WBC offers a lively environment of open and welcoming spaces, along with spaces conducive to relaxation, mindfulness, movement, and activity.

Your generous gift will help strengthen our efforts to care for the entire UR campus community. Information about each of the areas in the Health & Well-Being Unit is provided below. To learn even more about our initiatives and programming, visit: https://urwell.richmond.edu/

Thank you for your support!

Health Promotion

Health Promotion supports a holistic approach to the health and wellness of students, faculty, staff, and community members. Our prevention and educational approach to health and wellness focuses on empowering UR’s community to make informed decisions and healthy lifestyle choices, and on creating a unified culture to educate the campus community on the lifelong benefits of maintaining a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. Center for Awareness Response and Education (CARE)
Preventing sexual and interpersonal violence is a University-wide priority. Prevention efforts include raising awareness about red flags of violence, building the skills and confidence needed to intervene in problematic situations, embracing healthy sexuality and relationships, and changing the social norms that perpetuate violence. We do this through awareness campaigns, events, workshops, training, providing confidential support to students impacted by violence, and much more. To learn more, visit: care.richmond.edu

Spiders Support Recovery (SSR)
Spiders Support Recovery is our Collegiate Recovery Program, which provides resources and a supportive environment for students in recovery from addictive and other unhealthy behaviors. Our goal is to foster an environment amenable to myriad recovery paths including harm reduction, 12-Step, yoga and meditation and cognitive- and behavioral-science-based approaches. We strive to decrease stigma and increase awareness to cultivate the most meaningful and fulfilling collegiate experience for our students. Through federal and state grant funding, UR joined the Association of Recovery in Higher Education in 2020, and Spiders Support Recovery has been rapidly growing since that time. Current on-campus programming includes opportunities to engage in one-to-one recovery coaching, a weekly support group meeting open to anyone on the recovery spectrum (curiosity, harm reduction or abstinence), outreach presentations, NARCAN and Recovery Ally trainings. Student Health Center (SHC)

The SHC team provides vital support for University of Richmond students, addressing immediate needs for care and managing chronic conditions. Transitioning to college life can be an especially challenging time. Illness and injury may negatively impact a student's ability to fulfill their academic requirements and fully engage in the opportunities available at the University. Your gift will support our efforts to provide health education and outreach programs empowering students to take charge of their well-being, stress the importance of self-care, and highlight strategies preventing illness. Our team is also committed to supporting UR’s student body’s growing interest in health careers. Our initiatives include: group visits to discuss chronic condition management; sexual health education; clinical training workshops for our student employees interested in health careers; and health coaching. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
CAPS offers a wide range of free, short-term mental health-related services to full-time, degree-seeking students at the University of Richmond. Over one-third of UR students use CAPS services at least once before they graduate. CAPS is fully accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc., and an Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) member. Contributing to CAPS will help important initiatives, including enhancing the doctoral internship and advanced graduate training program, which allows CAPS to expand their staff by 6-8 clinicians each year, as well as professional development opportunities that help CAPS staff stay current on best clinical and supervisory practices. University Recreation (URec)
URec fosters a fun and inclusive environment that promotes physical as well as overall well-being through programs and facilities that enhance individual growth and encourage movement. The Weinstein Center for Recreation is the home of URec, and opportunities to get active include classes, cardio/weight machines, sports clubs, intramural sports, outdoor adventures, and off-campus trips. To learn more, visit: https://recreation.richmond.ed...

Disability Services (DS)
The mission of Disability Services is to ensure that those within our campus community who have disabilities are provided opportunity for full participation and equal access to campus resources. This mission reflects a commitment consistent and in compliance with federal standards and state regulations. It also underscores the importance of recognizing and promoting students’ abilities and independence. DS provides education and programming to UR community regarding the prevalence of disabilities on our campus and the community at large, the value of diversity, and ways to be equitable and inclusive. DS also houses our Testing Center, in which students with testing-related accommodations can complete exams. To learn more, visit: https://disability.richmond.ed...
