Gifts to the Student Emergency Fund provide direct assistance to students with financial need when they face an unexpected or emergency expense.
Hundreds of students have received help from the Student Emergency Fund since it was introduced in 2018. During the 2022-23 academic year, 85 students received emergency funding totaling $35,177 for books/supplies, clothing, travel, technology, and housing and medical needs:
- “My father passed away and I need to travel back home for winter break but do not have the funds”
- “My family recently experienced a house fire which has displaced us. While we are all safe, we did lose just about everything in the fire.”
- “I am unable to go back to my country of origin (Russia) this summer due to the ongoing war and the high likelihood of being drafted into the illegal war in case I return to Russia.”
- “I would like to request financial support to help cover the cost of a new pair of eyeglasses and the eye exam.”
- “I am currently seeking a laptop that I can use for my academics. I will be attending University of Richmond this fall and my single mother of 3 is currently not in a position to afford a laptop for me.”
Often modest grants can make a big difference to students in need. Every gift to this fund will help a Spider!
