UR's Career Services team works with students, alumni, and employers to make meaningful connections and provide comprehensive career development services.
Through the Career Opportunity Fund, Career Services helps students qualifying for need-based aid cover:
- Travel costs - Funding for all or part of a student's travel expenses to interview for a job, an internship, or professional/graduate school, or to participate in a Spider Road Trip.
- Professional Wardrobe costs - Reimbursement for one professional outfit, such as a suit or lab attire, that is a necessary part of a student's career development, job search, or graduate school interview processes.
- Graduate school application fees - for which the student cannot secure a waiver.
During the 2023-24 academic year, 240 students benefitted from the Career Opportunity Fund, with an average award of $240.
"This opportunity reflects my personal narrative as a first-generation college student, navigating a new professional world while balancing my commitment to faith and culture. This funding will help me take a step toward becoming the professional I aspire to be while remaining true to my passion for improving global health systems and advancing equity in healthcare."
- Student, Class of 2026
As someone who has been working full time since the age of 17 in addition to pursuing higher education, having the privilege of a road trip to New York City for multiple days is never something I was under the impression I would be able to actively pursue. The University of Richmond and the Career Opportunity Fund granted me access to opportunities I never could have imagined.
- Student, Class of 2025
As someone who has consistently represented the University of Richmond in professional settings, this funding will ensure I maintain the necessary standards of presentation and professionalism. This investment directly supports my continued career growth and aligns with my long-term goal of excelling in product management, where first impressions and professional presence are critical. Thank you!
