UR's Career Services team works with students, alumni, and employers to make meaningful connections and provide comprehensive career development services.
Through the Career Opportunity Fund, Career Services helps students qualifying for need-based aid cover:
- Travel costs - Funding for all or part of a student's travel expenses to interview for a job, an internship, or professional/graduate school, or to participate in a Spider Road Trip.
- Professional Wardrobe costs - Reimbursement for one professional outfit, such as a suit or lab attire, that is a necessary part of a student's career development, job search, or graduate school interview processes.
- Graduate school application fees - for which the student cannot secure a waiver.
During the 2024-25 academic year, 303 students (the most ever!) benefited from the Career Opportunity Fund, totaling $83,434 with an average award of $275.
Here are a few student quotes from this year’s recipients:
"This experience will give me direct exposure to industry leaders, potential mentors, and diverse career paths. Participation will help me make more informed decisions about my professional future and develop the network and knowledge necessary for long-term success." —Class of 2026 Student
"As I attend career fairs, interviews, and workplace settings, I will be able to focus on my performance and personal growth rather than worrying about how I present myself. Professionally appropriate attire is a key factor in demonstrating readiness and seriousness, and having access to the right clothing will position me to succeed in competitive environments." —Class of 2027 Student
"Black scrub bottoms are the required attire for the role, and being able to purchase proper, professional clothing helps me feel more confident and prepared for the work ahead. It also ensures I can meet the expectations of the clinical environment without added financial stress. Being supported by my university in even small ways like this reminds me that I’m not doing this alone, and that the work I’m putting in matters." —Class of 2026 Student
Career Services has a limited budget for these funds and could help many more students with your gift.
