๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ About

During the 2024-25 academic year, 303 students (the most ever!) benefited from the Career Opportunity Fund, totaling $83,434 with an average award of $275.

Students can receive assistance for:

  • Travel costs - Funding for all or part of a student's travel expenses for a job, internship, or professional/graduate school interview, or to participate in a job shadowing, Spider Road Trip, industry conference, or a health preceptorship opportunity.
  • Professional wardrobe costs - Reimbursement for one professional outfit, such as a suit or lab attire, that is a necessary part of a student's career development, job search, or graduate school interview process.
  • Graduate school application fees - for which the student cannot secure a waiver.

"I am one of seven kids putting myself through university almost entirely independently and currently have three jobs on campus. Having the privilege of a road trip to the United Nations in New York City for multiple days is never something I was under the impression I would be able to actively pursue. And yet, transferring to the University of Richmond granted me access to opportunities I never could have imagined. My genuine hope is that this journey will sharpen my existing skills as well as provide new ones, encouraging growth and movement towards success, and ultimately future employment." —Class of 2025 Graduate

"This experience will give me direct exposure to industry leaders, potential mentors, and diverse career paths. Participation will help me make more informed decisions about my professional future and develop the network and knowledge necessary for long-term success." —Class of 2026 Student

"Wearing professional clothing may seem like a small detail, but to me, it symbolizes a step toward becoming the kind of scientist and changemaker Iโ€™ve always aspired to be—someone who carries both credibility and confidence into every room." —Class of 2027 Student

โ€œAs I attend career fairs, interviews, and workplace settings, I will be able to focus on my performance and personal growth rather than worrying about how I present myself. Professionally appropriate attire is a key factor in demonstrating readiness and seriousness, and having access to the right clothing will position me to succeed in competitive environments.โ€ —Class of 2027 Student
