A bird of mysterious origin, Triceragoose arrived on campus sometime in the early 2000s and quickly became a University of Richmond icon.

With her triceratops-like knob, feisty personality, and undeniable celebrity status, she was beloved, occasionally feared, and always unforgettable. Whether you spotted her on your way to class or along the lake, seeing Triceragoose was always a highlight.

More than a campus celebrity, our feathered friend reminded us to embrace what makes us unique, march to the beat of our own wings, and never take ourselves too seriously. In a world that can feel overly serious, she gave us permission to be a little silly.

Triceragoose may no longer patrol Westhampton Lake, but her unhinged spirit lives on in the students and alumni who knew her, and in the unmistakable Spider spirit of unapologetically being yourself. Triceragoose left her mark on the University in a way that was entirely her own. Now, we can take a moment to reflect on her legacy and do something more to honor it.
